A Samsung Case Study
El Centro Community College, part of the Dallas County Community College District, faced heavy demand on its 2,230 lab PCs and growing maintenance and replacement costs despite a recent $1M monitor investment. Seeking to virtualize desktops and retain existing monitors, El Centro evaluated VDI options and selected Samsung’s NB-NH Tera2 Zero Client Cloud Stand (Samsung Cloud Stands) to reduce upkeep, improve security and simplify hardware management.
Samsung’s cloud-stand deployment (initially 500 units) integrated zero‑client endpoints with existing monitors, enabled remote software updates via VDI/PCoIP, and streamlined cable management and classroom layouts. The Samsung solution delivered measurable impact: students experienced faster, more reliable sessions; IT service calls dropped; energy costs fell from about $30,000 to $950 annually; expected hardware lifecycles extended to 5–7 years; and labs are now managed by two staff, delivering clear ROI and greater classroom flexibility.
