Samsung and eCaring Home Care Solution Reduces Hospitalizations, Enhances Quality of Care

Leading Health Insurance Providing Company, a not-for-profit insurer that provides home health services for at-risk, chronically ill members, needed a way to capture previously inaccessible in-home patient data and share it quickly with care managers to coordinate treatment and reduce unnecessary ER visits and readmissions. Samsung answered this need by supplying Galaxy tablets preloaded with eCaring’s cloud-based, icon-driven disease management software to give home health aides and members an easy way to record and transmit real-time health information.

Samsung’s deployment (350 aides in the initial phase) put eCaring on Galaxy tablets so aides could send actionable alerts and longitudinal data to care managers. The Samsung-enabled solution has driven measurable results: about seven prevented hospitalizations per month across ~200–250 members (roughly a 30% reduction), roughly $3,000 saved per member annually, an average of two alerts per member per month, faster response times, improved care quality and efficiency, and high satisfaction from both aides and members.
