Case Study: Orange România achieves fiber-like high-speed 5G Fixed Wireless Access with Samsung 5G FWA

Orange România faced gaps in last‑mile fixed broadband in the fast‑growing residential area of Floreşti, where fiber deployment was costly and slow. To address this, Orange România partnered with Samsung (with Cisco providing core components) to trial a commercial 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) solution using Samsung’s 5G FWA Radio Access equipment—including virtualized RAN, Access Units (AUs) and indoor/outdoor CPEs.

Samsung deployed a mmWave 5G FWA solution in the 26.5–27.5 GHz band with two AUs, Samsung CPEs and AI‑assisted ray‑tracing planning, delivering an aggregated trial capacity of 6.25 Gbps. Trial results showed downlink speeds typically between ~621–954 Mbps with many CPEs in good conditions reaching ~856–918 Mbps, latencies of about 9–15 ms, easy installation, and overwhelmingly positive user feedback—performance comparable to or better than cable—while Samsung’s RF planning closely matched field measurements.
