nova Mount Vernon Hospital Puts Emergency Room Patients at Ease With Virtual Reality

Inova Mount Vernon Hospital, a 237‑bed community hospital in Alexandria, Virginia, sought non‑pharmacological ways to reduce patient anxiety and pain in its newly renovated emergency department. To address this, the hospital deployed AppliedVR kits — Samsung Gear VR headsets powered by Oculus and Samsung Galaxy smartphones loaded with the AppliedVR platform — with devices locked down using the Samsung Knox Custom Configurator so they only run the therapeutic VR content.

Samsung’s hardware and Knox management enabled Inova to roll out AppliedVR in two emergency departments, where staff select calming meditations, 360° tours and immersive games for patients during procedures. Early results at Inova include improved pain management, an enhanced patient experience, reduced costs and stronger market differentiation; the solution is also being used at nearly 50 hospitals nationwide, demonstrating measurable adoption and promise for broader impact.
