Mobily (Etihad Etisalat), a rapidly growing Saudi mobile operator, faced rising data demand and a constrained spectrum environment that required an efficient, future-proof evolution path and a broad device ecosystem. To address limited unpaired spectrum, the need for strong industry backing, and ongoing device availability, Mobily engaged Samsung to evaluate and deploy TD-LTE network solutions.

Samsung implemented a TD-LTE migration that reused existing cell-site hardware and rolled out a pilot in six cities (Sept 2011), expanding to more than 30 cities by July 2012 — completing key deployments within seven months and substantially boosting network throughput. Samsung’s solution delivered cost savings through hardware reuse and power sharing, introduced managed services and Smart LTE Networks (including the Smart Scheduler) to improve capacity and reduce dropped calls, and lowered total cost of ownership while supporting Mobily’s continued market differentiation.
