BBVA Compass, a Top-25 U.S. commercial bank with 688 branches across the Sunbelt, needed to attract and better serve micro-businesses (firms with under $500,000 in sales) that found traditional bank services irrelevant to their mobile needs. To create a tailored offering, BBVA Compass partnered with Samsung and centered a new Mobility Bundle on the 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 together with a secured card reader and an e-business checking account.
Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 3 was deployed as the centerpiece of the bundle, providing on-the-go access to banking, productivity apps and secure card acceptance; BBVA Compass combined this device with merchant payment capability and mobile services. The Samsung-powered promotion produced a 40–50% increase in new household acquisitions and checking accounts, about 70% of surveyed micro-businesses called the offer “appealing and unique,” and users reported faster payments, fewer bank trips and measurable boosts in sales and productivity.
