Medtronic puts DBS therapy in patients’ hands with Samsung’s 36-language smartphone programmer

Medtronic, a global healthcare solutions company, sought user-friendly mobile devices to help clinicians and patients better optimize its Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) therapy for Parkinson's disease. Their legacy programming devices provided limited functionality and did not support Medtronic's aspirations for digital health innovation.

In collaboration with Samsung, Medtronic introduced a new Clinician Programmer built around a custom-configured Samsung Galaxy tablet and a Patient Programmer built around a Samsung smartphone. The solution made DBS programming sessions more effective for clinicians and gave patients greater control and discretion over their prescribed therapy between clinic consultations. Samsung's involvement provided an intuitive, secure platform that paved the way for future digital health innovations.
