A Samsung Case Study
Frontier Airlines needed a faster, more flexible way to handle high volumes of in-flight point-of-sale transactions so flight attendants could bundle and upsell items, open tabs, and recognize revenue quickly; its legacy proprietary POS devices lacked 4G connectivity so transactions often took weeks to post and bad cards went undetected. Frontier chose Samsung to provide 4G-enabled Galaxy tablets (8-inch models) to modernize its in-cabin POS workflow.
Samsung outfitted nearly 1,300 flight attendants with Samsung Galaxy tablets running a custom Aspex POS app, enabling immediate transaction posting, easy bundling and tabs, and access to company apps and manuals; the tablet solution increased catering revenue, improved reliability, boosted employee morale, and delivered same-day transaction posting and earlier detection of failed payments. Frontier reports revenue per passenger rose significantly, and Samsung’s deployment is expected to pay for itself in about six months.
