Case Study: LG U+ achieves nationwide LTE coverage and 3 million subscribers with Samsung

A Samsung Case Study

Preview of the LG U+ Case Study

LG U+ - Customer Case study

LG U+ was the third mobile operator in South Korea facing declining subscribers and poor mobile speeds because it lacked a 3G HSPA network. To close the gap quickly it partnered with Samsung, adopting Samsung’s multimode base stations to accelerate the move to LTE and enable a fast migration from its legacy CDMA infrastructure.

Samsung installed LTE circuit boards into LG U+’s existing CDMA cabinets, cutting deployment time and costs and enabling nationwide LTE coverage by March 2012. As a result, LG U+ grew to over 3 million LTE subscribers (about 35% of Korea’s LTE base), secured an 18.6% share of the mobile market, recorded 6.8% annual ARPU growth, and targeted 5 million subscribers by year-end — outcomes driven by Samsung’s deployment.
