A Samsung Case Study
The League Championship Series (LCS), North America's premier professional esports league for League of Legends, faced significant challenges with unreliable storage hardware. Their in-house systems, particularly the traditional hard drives, were unable to withstand the constant physical rigors of being transported between competition venues. This led to frequent system crashes, lengthy game pauses, and major interruptions during live tournaments, creating a poor experience for players and thousands of fans. The LCS partnered with Samsung to find a more robust storage solution.
Samsung provided its solid state drives (SSDs), starting with the 860 PRO model. The solution delivered exceptional reliability and consistent high performance, completely eliminating storage-related outages and system crashes during competitions. The Samsung SSDs maintained their read/write speeds even after years of heavy use and transport. This resulted in seamless tournament gameplay and broadcasts, allowing the LCS to achieve a level of technical reliability comparable to traditional professional sports. Due to this success, the LCS has continued to upgrade its systems with newer Samsung SSD models.
