EchoStreams boosts throughput 300% with Samsung SSDs

EchoStreams Innovative Solutions, LLC, an OEM/ODM provider, needed to develop a new high-performance storage server for CDN and video production markets. Their challenge was to meet customer demands for much higher throughput and IOps than existing SATA-based systems could deliver, while also reducing system size and power requirements. They turned to Samsung SSD technology to achieve these goals.

Samsung provided its NVMe SSDs, specifically the 983 DCT and 970 PRO models, for EchoStreams' new FlacheSAN systems. The solution, built around an AMD EPYC platform, dramatically increased performance. The results showed a more than 300% improvement in throughput to 34GB/s and a 400% improvement in IOps to 4 million, all while maintaining similar power consumption to the older, slower systems.
