Digital Notebook Solution Enables Better Record Keeping in Less Time

The Metro Vancouver Transit Police (MVTP), the only transit police service in Canada, faced persistent challenges using paper notebooks and pens for incident reporting and information sharing. After nearly eight years searching for a public-safety software solution, MVTP adopted the SceneDoc digital notebook app paired with Samsung smartphones (including Knox Workspace) to replace paper-based data collection and improve officer workflows.

Deployed on Samsung devices, SceneDoc lets dispatch create files, officers add notes via speech-to-text, stylus, typing or photos/video, and commanders access real-time scene details and officer locations. In an ongoing pilot, MVTP estimates the solution saves one hour of paperwork per officer per day, improves situational awareness through streaming and instant updates, enhances officer safety with a “Check In” feature, and protects case data using Samsung Knox containerization.
