Cincinnati Airport Enhances the Customer Experience With Wearable Alerts Solution

Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) faced a projected surge in passenger traffic of up to 25% and needed real-time insight into passenger flow—particularly restroom usage in non-ticketed areas—to keep facilities clean and maintain a positive customer experience. To address this, CVG worked with Samsung and Hipaax to pilot a wearable alerts solution using sensors in four baggage claim and arrival restrooms and Hipaax’s Taskwatch task-management software on Samsung smartwatches.

The Samsung-enabled solution links restroom sensors to smartwatch alerts (with an enterprise mobility management layer for IT control) so housekeeping is notified when usage reaches preset thresholds. As a result, CVG gained actionable, real-time data—discovering about 4,000 restroom users per day across the pilot sites and identifying the busiest terminal—and improved cleanliness, response times, and operational tracking; CVG now measures cleaning times, is exploring gamification for staff performance, and foresees broader smartwatch uses across airport operations.
