Building the Giga class wireless LAN infrastructure for smart education

The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education needed to establish a scalable, high‑performance wireless LAN to enable smart classrooms across Seoul while keeping costs and power use low. After pre‑validation testing (BMT) of performance, quality and stability, they selected Samsung’s wireless LAN solution—including Samsung WEA412i 802.11ac 2x2 APs, WEC8500 AP controller, WNMS and a wireless authentication server—to build the wireless infrastructure for 196 middle schools.

Samsung implemented a 802.11ac 2x2 AP–based architecture with duplex AP controllers, survival‑mode APs, AirEqualizer technology and device tracking, delivering reliable single‑AP classroom coverage and supporting ~30 simultaneous tablets. The deployment cut construction costs by over 30% versus 3x3 AP designs, reduced annual power costs by about 230,000 won per AP, improved multimedia delivery fairness and stability, and created a replicable smart‑school model across Seoul.
