Case Study: Roundups makes digital penny donations mainstream with Salt Edge

A Salt Edge Case Study

Preview of the Roundups Case Study

Salt Edge helps Roundups create a new way of donating

Roundups, a UK fintech that replicates loose-change penny donations in a digital era, faced the challenge of making roundup donations mainstream as cash usage declines while aggregating transactions from many banks in a PSD2-compliant way. Salt Edge, an open banking and data aggregation provider, was chosen to provide the technical connectivity and compliance support Roundups needed without requiring Roundups to acquire a PSD2 licence.

Salt Edge implemented its data aggregation plugin and Partner Program to connect Roundups to the CMA9 and major UK banks (AmEx, Barclays, HSBC, Monzo, Santander, and others) and to more than 5,000 financial institutions across 70+ countries. With Salt Edge’s connections, the Roundups app can scan card payments, round amounts up to the nearest 10p, 50p or £1, and donate the difference to users’ chosen charities — enabling scale across Europe and beyond and supporting Roundups’ mission to raise millions for nonprofits.
