SMG/Moscone Center upgrades 87-acre security with Salient Systems and a $551 million expansion

The SMG/Moscone Center, a major convention center in San Francisco, faced the challenge of upgrading its outdated 2002-era analog security system to a modern solution. The center required a state-of-the-art system to harden security for its large, multi-building facility, which is considered a soft target, and to gain capabilities like analytics and real-time monitoring. To meet this need, they partnered with vendor Salient Systems and their integrator to implement the CompleteView video management platform.

Salient Systems provided the CompleteView VMS, an open architecture solution that integrated seamlessly with the center's existing Honeywell ProWatch access control system. The new system, featuring multi-sensor IP cameras, offered intuitive mapping for guard dispatch and real-time monitoring. The solution was easily adopted by the security staff and significantly enhanced the facility's security posture as part of a major $551 million expansion, ensuring the venue remains attractive for future conventions and events.
