Houston Independent School District upgrades 17,000 cameras with Salient Systems

The Houston Independent School District (HISD), the largest school district in Texas, faced the challenge of upgrading its extensive, aging security infrastructure which included over 17,000 analog cameras. Partnering with vendor Salient Systems for over a decade, HISD needed to modernize its system with the latest IP technology to improve campus security across its 280 schools.

Salient Systems implemented its PowerUltra hardware and video management software to facilitate the district's major move to an IP video surveillance solution. The new system provided significantly increased storage and processing power, allowing each server to handle more than 200 IP cameras. The solution enabled 24/7 central monitoring, improved real-time visibility for operators, and established a robust foundation for the district's security needs for the next five years.
