City of Austin consolidates 300 facilities with Salient Systems to power Smart City security

The City of Austin faced the challenge of consolidating its disparate and aging video surveillance infrastructure from over 10 different platforms. The city needed a cost-effective solution that could integrate with existing systems, reduce bandwidth consumption, and avoid a complete rip-and-replace approach. They partnered with Salient Systems to implement its open architecture video management system (VMS).

Salient Systems provided a scalable VMS that supported both analog and IP cameras, enabling the city to reuse much of its existing infrastructure. A key result was the significant bandwidth reduction achieved through Salient's Dynamic Resolution Scaling technology, which allowed for the deployment of higher-resolution cameras even in remote sites without expensive network upgrades. This solution provided the City of Austin with a unified security platform, improving interoperability and situational awareness across hundreds of facilities.
