Case Study: WellChild achieves safe outdoor play and independence for children with Salesforce for Nonprofits

Wellchild & Salesforce help Alex’s dream to play in his garden comes true

WellChild is the UK national charity supporting children and young people with long-term or complex health conditions, providing everything from home-based WellChild Nurses to practical adaptations and policy advocacy. One common challenge is that many homes and gardens are unsafe or inaccessible for children with mobility or medical needs — for example, seven-year-old Alex, who has Hypermobility Syndrome and could not use his steep, two-foot-walled garden, leaving him unable to play outside safely.

Working with WellChild, Salesforce UK volunteers used the Helping Hands program and Salesforce.org’s 1-1-1 model to redesign and reconstruct Alex’s garden, supported by more than 2,261 volunteer hours and over $16,000 in grants. The makeover created a safe, accessible outdoor space that restored Alex’s independence and peace of mind for his family, and is part of broader efforts that are helping many other children enjoy safer homes.
