Using Communities to make kindness commonplace

Stand for Children is a national nonprofit that launched the Middle School Kindness Challenge in response to rising bullying and harassment. With a small team and an ambitious timeline to build a minimum viable program in four months, Stand needed a low-cost, scalable platform that would deliver classroom-ready content, allow individual educator access and school/district grouping, and provide performance data to guide program improvement.

Stand built a digital community on the Salesforce platform (Community Cloud, Nonprofit Success Pack, Lightning, and AppExchange tools) to deliver the program as an app with personalized progress tracking, activity ratings, and dashboards for “Kindness Captains” to manage school-level progress. In its first year the program reached 1,500 schools in all 50 states + DC, registered over 13,000 educators, and delivered 23,000 rated activities (average rating 4.26/5), while producing early evidence of improved student behavior and reduced punitive responses.
