A Salesforce for Nonprofits Case Study
The University of North Texas, a large public institution with about 38,000 students, faced fragmented academic advising: departments didn’t share student interaction data, advisors relied on PeopleSoft reports and spreadsheets, referrals went untracked, and students often had to repeat their stories — all of which limited the university’s ability to improve retention and timely graduation.
UNT implemented a Salesforce-based engagement system (an ~8-month rollout, live April 2015) that consolidated campus systems so advisors can see past interactions, appointment reasons, paperwork status and follow-up plans, and run centralized reports. In 18 months the platform recorded 35,000 appointments and 130,000 case notes, drove a 90% advising attendance rate, increased advisor ownership of student success, and provided the data needed to measure and expand campus-wide support.
