The University of Notre Dame launched “Notre Dame Day,” a 29-hour global celebration designed to engage alumni, parents and friends and inspire giving. Faced with the challenge of coordinating 34 campus partners, 1,000+ social ambassadors, hours of streaming content and conversations across more than 100 countries, the university needed a way to monitor sentiment and steer real-time engagement to drive traffic and donations.
Notre Dame used ExactTarget Marketing Cloud’s Radian6 as a social media command center—leveraging Conversation Cloud and sentiment analysis to track topics, respond in real time and funnel supporters to broadcasts and giving pages. A $10+ donation earned three votes that allocated $280,000 in challenge funds and supplied valuable donor preference data; the campaign generated 20,000+ social mentions, a 74% increase in the “Proud to be ND” Twitter account, 51% of referral traffic to the giving site from social, and over 4,000 donations.
