A Salesforce for Nonprofits Case Study
Newark Public Schools (NPS) faced a fragmented admissions system in which each local education agency had its own applications, deadlines, lotteries and waitlists—making it difficult for many families, especially those without time or transportation, to secure the right school for their children. In 2013 NPS led a collaboration of 14 LEAs to create a single, Newark-wide enrollment solution serving more than 50,000 students.
Using Salesforce and a Family Enrollment Portal built with Acumen Solutions, Newark Enrolls lets families apply to up to eight district and charter schools with one online application and see real-time seat and waitlist status via customizable, secure user views. The portal increased transparency, empowered parents to enroll or transfer students themselves, drastically reduced visits to the enrollment center, freed staff to focus on complex cases, and positioned the district to expand integrations like a Student Information System.
