Blue Star Families is the largest military family engagement organization in the U.S., serving a diverse, global community of more than a million service members and their families who move frequently and often feel isolated. With a fully remote staff and programs ranging from spouse employment initiatives to community outreach and an annual lifestyle survey, the organization faced the challenge of reaching members wherever they are and coordinating volunteers and donors across 50 international chapters.
Using Salesforce Community Cloud, App Cloud, and a Mobile App as a virtual office, Blue Star Families created a real‑time collaboration platform that connected staff, volunteers, and supporters—highlighted by an interactive live feed at their Fifth Anniversary celebration. The platform centralized fundraising and constituent data, improved donor-tracking and engagement strategies, and enabled the small staff to build and maintain relationships with hundreds of thousands of military families worldwide.
