Alternative school within Boston Public Schools uses Salesforce for competency-based learning & social-emotional progress tracking

Boston Day & Evening Academy (BDEA) is an alternative public high school in Boston serving 16–23-year-olds who have dropped out or are at risk. Using a competency-based model combined with wrap-around social-emotional supports, BDEA needed to track academic benchmarks, attendance, incident reports, interventions, and post-secondary plans — but that data lived in disparate systems, preventing longitudinal analysis and hampering the school’s ability to intervene effectively.

BDEA built a unified system called “Connects” on the Salesforce platform (Sales Cloud, Community Cloud, FormAssembly), creating student, teacher, and advisor portals that surface integrated, actionable data and enable predictive risk analysis. The new platform improved transparency and collaboration, helped staff identify and respond to issues like anxiety and depression, made teachers and departments data-driven, and—thanks to ongoing customization support—provided a flexible, scalable solution that better supports personalized student pathways.
