Spirit AeroSystems, a leading aerostructures designer and manufacturer serving Boeing, Airbus and others, faced a major identity-management problem after an internal audit revealed missing access certifications and numerous orphaned accounts. The company’s aging provisioning system created security and compliance risks and had to be replaced quickly after a six-month requirements analysis.

Spirit selected SailPoint (initially alongside Oracle) and ultimately had SailPoint take over both front- and back-end identity management, building custom connectors (including for an unsupported SAP version) and redeploying IdentityIQ rather than trying to repair the old architecture. The result: self-service provisioning, faster onboarding and streamlined security workflows, the ability to add applications without vendor help, and an expected ROI in about 1.5 years with roughly $180,000 in annual savings.
