A regional health system operating more than a dozen hospitals and specialized centers (roughly 1,700 beds and 18,000+ employees) faced a surge of contingent workers during the pandemic that its modest IT team could not provision fast enough. Manual identity provisioning took days, risking patient care, while quarantined IT staff and the need to protect PHI created a tense tradeoff between rapid onboarding and security/compliance.

The organization deployed SailPoint’s Identity Security platform to enable self-service access requests, automated entitlement decisions, a single admin view of permissions, and preconfigured “access bundles” via Active Directory for rapid, role-based provisioning over the internet. The result: clinicians and field teams received secure, compliant access quickly, help-desk load and IT bottlenecks dropped, and auditors gained clear trails of access during the crisis.
