Energy Provider Improves Compliance with Identity Governance

A Fortune 300 gas and electric utilities provider serving more than five million customers and employing over 9,000 people faced mounting SOX and NERC CIP compliance requirements and needed to centralize visibility into user access, implement role-based controls, and reduce the heavy IT burden of manual audit processes.

Working with Partners Consulting, the company deployed SailPoint IdentityIQ to aggregate identity data from 32 critical applications (including SAP, Active Directory, RACF, UNIX/Linux and Windows), automate access certifications and closed-loop remediation, and create role-based access and SoD rules. The rollout produced fast returns: certifications became faster and more accurate (completed initial manager/app-owner certs in two weeks), more than 15% of inappropriate access was removed, dozens of SoD rules and 100+ roles were implemented, high-risk accounts are now easy to find and remediate, and auditors can be satisfied with on-demand reporting — all while reducing IT workload.
