A SAI Global Case Study
Sandvik’s Mining & Rock Technology (SMRT) faced a sprawling, insecure, manual EHS reporting process built from 76 interlinked spreadsheets with over one million calculations that limited timely insights and the ability to drive cultural change. In 2008 SMRT selected SAI Global’s EHS solution to replace the spreadsheets with a configurable platform that could consolidate data, support both leading and lagging indicators, and turn reporting into actionable knowledge.
Using SAI Global, SMRT implemented configurable reporting, EHS League Tables and leading‑indicator monitoring to benchmark performance and drive conversations that changed behavior. The results include a drop in Total Recordable Injury rate from 19.6 to 4.0 (2018), Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate below 1.0, hazard close‑out rates up from 59% to 98% while hazards identified rose 200%, site EHS plan completion at ~93%, compliance up from 40% to 80%, and 88% of employees rating the EHS culture as strong or very strong.
