A SAI Global Case Study
Transit Australia Group (TAG), one of Australia’s largest privately owned public transport operators and the only operator with in‑house bus design and manufacturing, needed to standardise processes and get a clearer view of operational and strategic risk to improve training, change management, business development and control costs (notably insurance). TAG engaged SAI Global to apply international quality, environmental and safety frameworks (ISO9001:2015, ISO14001:2015, AS4801:2001 and OHSAS18001:2007) and to support the rollout of its Operational Excellence System (OES) through stage 1 and 2 certification audits.
SAI Global conducted the certification audits, guided diligent risk planning and helped implement the OES, embedding lead safety indicators such as behavioural safety conversations, workplace inspections and workforce communication while standardising processes across the business. As a result of SAI Global’s engagement, TAG recouped the investment in just over one year through reduced insurance premiums, saw culture improvements and recorded measurable gains: a 35% reduction in Total Recordable Inquiry Frequency Rate, 75% reduction in average first days to return to work, 80% reduction in average cost of claim, a 67% reduction in substantiated complaints and improved on‑time running of services.
