SmartStream is typical of many companies that have expanded globally – it lacked a central, consistent view of business across the globe

SmartStream, a provider of trading software and services to more than 70 of the world’s top 100 banks, employs over 550 people across 20 countries. Rapid global expansion left HR fragmented: regional teams and finance staff maintained their own Excel-based records and formats, giving the Global HR Director little consolidated visibility and creating heavy manual work to reconcile differing legal, employment and financial rules.

SmartStream implemented Sage Business Cloud People — a cloud HRMS that supports global coverage while accommodating local languages, currencies and regulations — in a two-phase rollout with country self-service portals (US and UK live, Pac‑Asia following). The new system gave managers immediate visibility (organisational charts and fast reports), freed HR to focus on strategic work rather than data chasing (reporting time fell from days to minutes), achieved strong user adoption, and set the stage for payroll integrations and added talent and performance functionality.
