Betfair rejects SAP, Oracle and Workday in favor of Sage Business Cloud People for HR

Betfair, the London-based betting exchange with about 1,700 employees across roughly 15 countries, replaced an ageing SAP HR system that was oversized, hard to change, costly to run and integrate, and couldn’t be rolled out globally. The HR team needed a faster, more agile solution that would reduce manual work, remove reliance on a systems integrator and better support a fast-paced, international business.

After evaluating 11 vendors — including Oracle and Workday — Betfair chose Sage Business Cloud People, a configurable cloud HRMS that linked to other HR systems and allowed in-house configuration rather than costly customization. The company added recruitment, management and benefits modules, localized the system for sister companies, completed a three-month implementation (overcoming a time-consuming data migration and user training), and achieved a rollout described as straightforward by the CIO, with annual running costs reportedly about a quarter of the former SAP solution.
