A Sage Intacct Case Study
Powell’s Books is an independent bookseller in Portland, Oregon, operating five brick‑and‑mortar stores and Powells.com with over two million volumes and 530+ employees. The company needed to replace outdated on‑prem accounting that couldn’t produce store‑level P&L or integrate with new e‑commerce (BigCommerce) and inventory (JASCI) platforms to gain scalable, timely financial visibility.
By implementing Sage Intacct with implementation partner Revolution Accounting, Powell’s automated bank reconciliations, recurring transactions and month‑end workflows and began integrating inventory and sales data. The change shortened the monthly close, saved hours on reconciliations and reporting, delivered granular gross‑margin and store‑level profitability insights, and enabled data‑driven operational improvements like better freight negotiations and purchasing decisions.
