A Safe Software Case Study
The City of Augsburg, Germany, maintains a large geospatial repository (including 130,000 buildings, 52 million DEM points, and extensive parcel and address data) and wanted to make its 3D city models accessible across the organization. Because most staff lacked ArcGIS access or experience, manually producing customized 3D PDFs on demand for different sections of the city was time-consuming and unsustainable for the GIS team.
Working with con terra, Augsburg integrated FME Server into its ArcGIS Server web mapping platform to automate Geodatabase → 3D PDF transformations. Staff draw a polygon in the web map, FME Server queries and converts the selected data and delivers a 3D PDF — no client software or special training required. The scalable, self-serve solution widened access to informative 3D data, improved decision-making across the organization, and freed the GIS team from repetitive tasks.
