Socrata, a cloud software company that builds open-data solutions for government, partnered with the Police Foundation to support the Task Force on 21st Century Policing by centralizing disparate police data into an open data portal. The challenge was to automate the ingestion and standardization of data coming from multiple APIs and sources so it could be published reliably and made widely accessible as part of the White House Police Data Initiative.

Socrata’s analysts used FME Desktop to design ETL workflows that pull from varied APIs and transform records into standardized formats, then automated those workflows with FME Cloud (FME Server on AWS). The result: what once took weeks now completes in days, enabling faster publication of quality open data, advancing police-data transparency and helping the Police Foundation meet its goals.
