MeteoSwiss - Customer Case Study

MeteoSwiss, Switzerland’s national weather and climate service, needed to deliver ICAO aviation special alerts (SIGMET/AIRMET) as clear map views for airlines, flight planners, and pilots. The challenge was converting text-based advisory reports into timely, easily understood visual products to improve in‑flight and ground decision making.

Working with INSER, MeteoSwiss implemented FME workflows that parse and interpret alert text, build the geometry, and generate PDF maps; FME Server runs the workflow every five minutes and streams the PDFs to end users. The result is near‑real‑time mapped interpretations of SIGMET/AIRMET alongside the original reports, improving communication and decision making and easily extendable to other regions.
