Golder Associates, a global consulting, design and construction firm, needed to summarize air emissions from residential and transportation sources into a fishnet grid for an air quality assessment report supporting a client’s industrial approval application. They turned to Safe Software’s FME to handle the complex geospatial calculations and data integration required for the analysis.

Using Safe Software’s FME, Golder Associates built a 50 km by 50 km grid of 5 km² cells, populated it with census, transportation, and emissions data, and calculated emissions for 8 pollutants with repeatable quality checks. The solution delivered grid-cell IDs, coordinates, pollutant emissions, and average elevation, automating a process that saved hours of work each time and made complex calculations available at the click of a button.
