GeoManitoba - Customer Case Study

GeoManitoba, successor to the Surveys and Mapping Branch of Manitoba, needed a reliable way to turn geotagged photos into KMZ files with the images embedded for easy viewing and distribution in Google Earth. Having used FME for geospatial processing and translation since 1998, the team sought a streamlined solution that could handle photo display and organization.

Using FME, they built a process that generates complete KMZ files, displays photos in Google Earth, labels photo points, groups different photo types into folders, and assigns unique icons by type. The project was successful, and GeoManitoba is now expanding FME use to automate data transfer into the Government of Manitoba’s Spatial Data Infrastructure, with FME positioned as a key integration tool.
