A Safe Software Case Study
GeoGR Inc., a public–private partnership created to improve access to spatial data for Graubünden, Switzerland, faced a time-consuming, manual distribution process: datasets were spread across many cantonal, federal and private authors and users had to submit paper requests and wait days for data prepared and sent by staff. GeoGR’s challenge was to centralize those disparate vector and raster sources and provide an intuitive, self-service web system that delivers up‑to‑date data on demand.
Safe Software reseller TYDAC implemented its Neapoljs Mercato solution using FME Server to translate, transform and load data into a central PostGIS repository and power on‑the‑fly format conversion via a MapServer web viewer and Drupal checkout. The result is 24/7, self-service access—users can select geographic extents and output formats (e.g., GeoTIFF, DXF, INTERLIS, shapefile) and receive downloads in minutes rather than days, while data authors remain hands‑off and the system scales to support 300+ formats.
