FortisBC, the largest natural gas utility and second-largest electrical utility in British Columbia, needed a faster way to assess wildfire threats to its buildings, customers, and gas and electric assets. With wildfire frequency and severity rising, the company turned to Safe Software’s FME platform to give Operations Managers timely information for rapid response.

Safe Software used FME and FME Flow to integrate active wildfire data from BC Wildfire Branch into FortisBC’s GE Smallworld environment, automatically updating every two hours. The solution lets staff view assets within a 10 km buffer of each fire and access outputs like drawings, reports, plots, Excel files, and KMZ files via VPN, improving decision-making for first responders and the GIS team.
