City of Austin - Customer Case Study

The City of Austin, Texas, needed to annually update its maps and spatial database to reflect newly annexed parcels — a repetitive, resource‑intensive task that affected multiple data layers and 21 standard map products for a city of nearly 1 million residents.

By implementing FME and ArcGIS Workflow Manager the city automated edits to five affected layers, updated their ArcSDE database, produced and published 21 standard maps to an FTP site and open data portal, and made workflows simple enough for any team member to run. The new process became operational faster than the previous method, saves about 900 hours per year, and has prompted plans to schedule runs, automate notifications, and extend automation to inspector boundaries.
