Case Study: City of Auburn achieves automated crime-data geocoding and ArcGIS integration with Safe Software (FME)

A Safe Software Case Study

Preview of the City of Auburn Case Study

City of Auburn - Customer Case Study

The City of Auburn, Washington needed to convert raw crimes data stored on a proprietary Linux system into spatial data usable in their ArcGIS SDE environment for online mapping. The raw data had no coordinate system and only contained addresses, creating a challenge to add geospatial context and prepare the data for public-facing maps.

Using FME Desktop they built a workflow to geocode addresses, add spatial components, transform and rename attributes, run QA/QC checks, and translate outputs for the destination system. FME Server now automates the process nightly with email notifications and logging—providing easier updates than previous Python scripts, enabling non-experts to edit workflows, and improving reliability and transparency for Auburn’s GIS operations.
