Auckland Council faced a challenge in generating site contamination reports, a slow process that required significant manual effort from its GIS team and could take up to three days to complete. To modernize this workflow, the council partnered with Safe Software to create a faster, more secure reporting solution using FME Flow.

Safe Software implemented a self-service web application powered by FME Flow that automated the data pipeline. This solution reduced report generation from days to under two minutes, saving an estimated 250 GIS hours annually and allowing the Contamination Team to generate their own reports without specialist involvement. The project by Safe Software also improved data governance and has become a scalable model for other council workflows.
