Athens-Clarke County Police Department - Customer Case Study

Athens-Clarke County Police Department’s Information Management Division in Athens, GA produces the critical 9-1-1 maps used by dispatchers and first responders across the county. Their 64-layer maps and tens of thousands of labels were maintained in incompatible Esri ArcInfo and Intergraph GeoMedia systems, making map and label production a manual, error-prone process that could take weeks and risk timely, accurate situational awareness.

The IMD implemented Safe Software’s FME to automate data integration, transform annotations, and generate DGN files for I/MAP Editor, creating a repeatable one‑click workflow. Label preparation dropped from two weeks to about two hours, overall map production time was halved, label quality and consistency improved, and staff gained time to address other data issues and support initiatives like Next Generation 9-1-1.
