A Saddle Creek Logistics Services Case Study
United Sugars, a major sugar supplier in the U.S., faced a costly challenge with sugar hardening during storage and handling. While the hardened sugar was still usable, it reduced marketability and often had to be returned and resold at a discount. To address this, United Sugars partnered with Saddle Creek Logistics Services to find a more efficient warehousing and reprocessing solution.
Saddle Creek Logistics Services helped automate the reprocessing process by investing in a “Product Saver” machine at its Lakeland, Florida facility. The system recovers about 60 pallets per day—roughly 10 times faster than the manual process—and packages the sugar into 2,400-pound supersacks for reprocessing into liquid sugar. The automation delivered approximately $500,000 in labor savings over two years while minimizing product and material loss.
