A Saba Case Study
South Bend Medical Foundation, a not-for-profit healthcare laboratory with about 850 employees across five states, struggled with a paper-based performance appraisal system built from Word templates on a shared drive. HR couldn’t track where managers were in the review process, faced privacy and storage risks, and needed consistent, secure reporting to support pay-for-performance across regional operations.
The Foundation implemented Halogen Performance Healthcare, a web-based performance-management system, piloting in August 2005 and going live January 2006. Training was quick, managers adapted in about 30 minutes, and the task-driven workflow improved accountability and transparency. Within three years they projected a 200% ROI, employees can view and comment on reviews electronically, evaluations are stored securely (saving paper and filing space), and the HR team has customized the system to collect broader supervisory input and plans to add Halogen Compensation next.
