A Saba Case Study
Teachers Mutual Bank is a New South Wales–based mutual founded in 1966 that serves the Australian education sector with 156,000 members and $1.8 billion in assets and is regularly recognised as an employer of choice. The bank’s challenge was an inefficient, paper-based performance management process—appraisals were time-consuming, scattered throughout the year, not linked to job descriptions, and contributed to higher turnover and inconsistent development planning.
In 2004 the bank implemented Halogen Performance to automate and standardise reviews, link competencies and job descriptions, customise evaluation forms, capture ongoing feedback via performance journals, and tie development plans to strategic goals. The change produced more meaningful, evidence-based conversations, improved accountability, streamlined administration, stronger internal promotion practices, an engagement score averaging 85% and a reduction in turnover from about 14% to 10%.
