Discovery uses Saba to support continuous learning for its growing workforce while reducing costs by over R 25 million

Discovery, a leading South African insurer with a diversified portfolio and roughly 7,500 employees, faced the challenge of delivering consistent learning and meeting new regulatory compliance requirements across a widely distributed workforce. Manual, paper‑based tracking made reporting difficult and limited access to training for many employees.

Discovery implemented the Saba LMS and Saba Publisher to create a self‑service, hybrid learning environment with recorded playback and collaboration tools. The platform now handles over 1,000 enrollments in 91 hybrid classes, doubled online learning to 56% of training, and enabled up to 85% of students to review course recordings. Results include a R25.6 million cost savings, a reduction of 98,559 employee training hours, a break‑even point of two students for online courses, an ROI greater than five times, and an annual net benefit of about $1 million after technology costs.
