Using the College Employee Satisfaction Survey™ to engage campus employees

Friends University, a participant in the Higher Learning Commission’s Academic Quality Improvement Program, wanted to benchmark employee satisfaction and engagement as one of its first quality improvement projects. After finding that building an in-house survey could be costly and time-consuming, the university chose Ruffalo Noel Levitz and its College Employee Satisfaction Survey™ so it could compare results with peer and aspirant institutions and customize some questions.

Using the Ruffalo Noel Levitz survey, Friends University reported an overall engagement and satisfaction rate of 4.06/5.0 across campus culture, work environment, institutional goals, and involvement in planning. The results helped the university identify areas for improvement and put new policies and procedures in place, including a campuswide performance development evaluation process, stronger professional development programming, and improved campuswide communication.
