University of Maryland - Customer Case Study

The University of Maryland’s Department of Entomology needed funding to build Sentinel Hives for real‑time honey bee health monitoring but lacked grant support to cover the costs. To reach bee enthusiasts, alumni, and community partners, the University of Maryland used Ruffalo Noel Levitz’s RNL Crowdfunding platform (branded Launch UMD) to run a targeted fall crowdfunding pilot.

Using Ruffalo Noel Levitz’s RNL Crowdfunding solution, the campaign raised $24,105 from 156 donors—301% of its $8,000 goal—including a $5,000 matching gift; the median gift was $20 and about 90% of donations matched suggested giving levels. Ruffalo Noel Levitz’s platform and outreach tools helped drive broad engagement, social sharing, strong video views, and rapid gift volume that turned the project into a clear fundraising success.
